Many of us experience events early in life that shape our worldview and help us to define happiness. For me, it was watching my father wake up early each morning to begin his route as a bus driver while my mother stayed home to take care of my three siblings and me. My parents immigrated to the U.S. in the 1980s. They both worked incredibly hard and provided us with love, care, and the necessities but could not afford much beyond that. Despite this, they continued to work hard, were kind to others, and always helped neighbors in time of need (usually a church friend). As time went on, the lessons I learned from watching my parents profoundly influenced how I viewed the world. The ticket to my own happiness would come if I worked hard, was kind, and genuinely desired to help others.
This formula first proved true in my college years at Stetson University. I was recruited on scholarship to play on the Men’s Division I soccer team. Before entering my first college class, I remember thinking that being a student-athlete would be easy. I quickly learned that I was wrong. I distinctly remember long bus rides to away games while studying for a tax final due shortly after the trip. It was hard at first. As I grew into a senior team member, I found it energizing to mentor younger teammates, both academically and on the field. I learned that being diligent in my own work was rewarding, but I also had a passion for helping others.
This realization led me to RCG. Meeting the team was enlightening and left me feeling gratitude and respect. The team’s values and philosophy nicely aligned with my own. There are no distractions from coming to work every day, working hard, being kind, and genuinely helping our clients achieve their ideal life.
